Xiaomi CEO Says It Smartphones Will Get More Expensive Soon

Xiaomi fans might find it so disappointing to see their favorite brand get expensive soon. We all know Xiaomi has made the smartphone space really accommodating by offering high-end smartphones at a portable price but now the well-known Chinese phone maker is planning to increase the price of its smartphones.

Xiaomi smartphones have brought competition amongst big brands like Samsung and OnePlus. Xiaomi devices have dominated the Mid-range segment for some time now forcing even Samsung to come with a different approach to the Mid-range devices.

According to a recent report via Technode, the company’s CEO Lei Jun has hinted that Xiaomi phones will get a little more expensive soon as the company plans to leave the reputation for producing cheap hardware behind.

Lei said, “Actually, we want to get rid of this reputation that our phones cost less than RMB 2,000. We want to invest more and make better products.”

Xiaomi launched Mi 9, its latest flagship device in February, the same day with the Galaxy S10, however, the CEO Lei Jun said, the Mi 9 might be its last device to fall under RMB 3,000 ($450).

Xiaomi’s plan to increase price in its smartphone may be a good thing for the company, but, on the other hand they should be more concerned about how fans would react. The reason Xiaomi has been able to gain a good amount of loyal users is because the company has been able to deliver what the people want at a cheaper rate.

If at any point the company becomes an overpriced company like Samsung, fans might decide to go for other manufacturers since cheap hardware has been the company’s USP (unique selling point).

However, it would be great to see the approach Xiaomi is coming with and how it would impact the company.
